Indian Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI) may have the power to act against and punish Aadhaar’s violations, but in a surprising example, the six-year-old Aadhaar card image is uploaded on the e-commerce site, Amazon India for selling bag lamination. The children’s aadhaar card has sensitive details such as the date of birth of the child, address, father’s name and other personal details, a report claimed on Friday.
According to a report by News18 Tech, a valid aadhaar card photo about a child was uploaded by a seller who used the name “my office stationery” at Amazon.in. The publication can verify that the Aadhaar card number uploaded on Amazon India is a valid Aadhaar card number. The image posted by the seller at Amazon.in, however, is not available when submitting this story. The possibility of e-commerce sites has reduced it.
Aadhaar has been examined for privacy problems for a long time. There are concerns about problems related to privacy rights, especially after being appointed as a fundamental right in 2018. Recently, UIDAI noted that the Aadhaar card should not be uploaded to public platforms such as Facebook, and Twitter, among others.
Meanwhile, early July, UIDAI has also announced a Bug prize program to identify vulnerability in the Aadhaar data security system. In a circular, UIDAI calls for Empanelment from 20 top hackers to identify vulnerability in the central identity data repository (CIDR).
Aadhaar is the number 12 digit that connects individual biometric data to create a unique identity. A person’s bank account, telephone number, government program, and other financial services are all connected to their Aadhaar number.
